Encased in 10 pounds of Flour Dust Here is a story about 2 of my younger brothers. When the younger of the two was toddler age, he was the most adventurous tyke around and the most mischievous. And the other, who was not quite 3 years his senior, was my mom's biggest little helper and was certain that his sole responsibility was to care for and baby sit his little younger brother. On one particular morning, while mom was busy elsewhere in our 6 bedroom home, the younger brother whom I will call Tyke, decided to go on one of his mischievous adventures and investigate the kitchen cupboards. He began by pulling out the various pots and pans from one of the cupboards. When his babysitter, whom I will call Senior, heard the noise, he came running from the living room to see what the commotion was. Of course, Senior tried to pick up Tyke to get him to stop making a mess of 'mommy's pans' and when that didn't work, decided to put them away as fast as Tyke was pulling them out. This game went on with the usual brotherly chatting about the subject, until Tyke tired of it and headed for his next mischievous adventure. Senior was still putting the rest of the 'pans' away when Tyke spotted the 10 pound bad of flour that mom had just opened to make pancakes that morning. She hadn't had the time then to put it into the proper container so she left it ... sort of on the edge... of the cupboard that the baking ingredients were kept in, planning to take care of it later. Tyke decided to help her take care of it. On his tippy, tippy toes, he reached for the bag at the same time that Senior finished the pans cupboard. Senior saw tyke and, of course, went rushing over to get him away from the sack of flour. As he grabbed it from one direction and Tyke tried to reach it from the other one, the sack of flour tipped upside down and literally buried both of them in white dust... the whole 10 pounds of it covered them entirely and pooled at their feet. Just about the time that the sack was being reached for, mom came around the corner, finished with what she had been doing and saw the scene. Her exact words were... "Don't either of you dare move." They were so frightened that they were in BIG trouble now that they never even flinched. Mom ran and got her camera and snapped a pose of them drenched in white flour dust. Then she got the vacuum cleaner out and vacuumed them off good as new. The expression on their faces in that pose was so hilarious and they looked so ghostly covered in all that flour that it was a family discussion highlight on many occassions. By Sunny Hull
