Susie's Diary (1)
Demon Posession

I have determined that the best way to get through this whole phase is to write pregnancy off as a temporary demon posession. Pregnancy is that time in the reproductive cycle when an alien lifeform invades the woman's body and turns even the most sweet and placid lady into a raving, neurotic, paranoid, emotional basket case quite capable of destorying the world if she feels like it. Being as I was never sweet and placid to begin with, this is having serious effects on my husband, who may decide to go hide in a cave before this is all over. The psychotic little monster (who no doubt will be the world's most perfect baby after birth) is currently targeting him as the focal point for most of the trauma. Poor thing.

On the physical side I have begun to bulge quite noticably. My "fat clothes" are getting snug and it's time to break down and start looking at maternity wear. I refuse, however, to wear anything that looks like a sailor suit. I just won't. What demented soul decided that pregnant women want to dress like toddlers or nautical explorers? Probably the same MAN who designed shoes with pointy toes.

My last blood test showed that I am anemic (have an iron deficieny) which is most likely a combination of not enough iron in my diet and the move from coastal, sea level California to mountain, high altitude Utah. This condition is easily remedied by the addition of three teaspoons daily of black strap molasses to my diet. Whee. It could be worse, at least it's not another pill. Which reminds me, what genius decided to give pregnant women, a group known for their propensity toward nausea, a pill roughly the size of their head to be taken daily?! Prenatal vitamins were virtually impossible for me to get down in my first trimester and are still a challenge. Chopped up and in yogurt is the only way I've managed, if any of you are pregnant and having the same problem.
