It
Snowed Two Hats
By Lily Erlic
British Columbia,
Canada
It snowed two hats,
One winter
day,
While
Marie and Jacob,
Came
out to play,
They twirled and
skipped around,
Over the snow laden ground.
Marie toppled gently over the snow,
While Jacob said, "What do you know?"
There before them
lay two hats,
Tucked under the snow like two black cats.
A blue ribbon on one and red on the other,
It was just as though they were sister and brother.
Marie placed the
red ribbon hat upon her head,
Jacob chose the blue ribbon hat instead.
They danced around in circles over the snow,
Making patterns with their feet wherever they could go.
They danced with
stars under the sky,
And with an outside cat who winked an eye.
They looked down
below their feet,
And what did they see but something neat.
Patterns of angels and bells lay in the snow,
They wondered how it happened, they did not know.
They kept on dancing
until the moon rose high,
Then the moon looked down and winked an eye.
The squirrels sat on the white picket fence,
And watched the dancing and could not make sense,
Of the patterns of
angels and bells in the snow,
They wondered how it happened, they did not know.
The owl gave a hoot
from the tree beyond,
The frogs began to croak from the nearby pond.
The raccoons were peering from around their tree,
Chattering and looking towards Jacob and Marie.
They mused about
the patterns of angels and bells in the snow,
They wondered how it happened, they did not know.
Jacob and Marie took
off their hats,
They blinked their eyes like two blind bats,
All the patterns disappeared like melted ice,
Jacob said, "That wasn't nice!"
Marie shed a tear,
wondered and said,
" Maybe, it's a dream and I'm in bed!"
The next day when
the sun was shining high,
The sparrows were chirping in the sky,
They placed their hats upon their heads,
As soon as they rose out of their beds.
They danced around
in circles over the snow,
Making patterns with their feet wherever they could go.
Over the hilltop,
and from behind the tree,
Two tumbling snowballs they could see,
Came towards them and stopped to say,
"
We lost are hats, did you see them today?"
Jacob and Marie placed
the hats upon their crown,
Sparkles, twinkles and flashes flittered around,
A magical wave swirled about the yard,
Jacob and Marie were caught off guard.
Two snow people appeared
beneath the hats,
The snow woman said, "We're lost without that!"
" Thank you," said the fellow, "for our parts,"
They smiled and thanked them with all their hearts.
Two snow people made
patterns of angels and bells in the snow,
Jacob and Marie knew how it got there, this they did know.
They danced all together in circles over the snow,
Making patterns with their feet wherever they could go.
It snowed two hats,
One winter
day,
While Marie
and Jacob,
Came out to
play.
