A New Nest for Your Baby
Your baby, although he or she is now older, has had a lot of time without all the love needed. During the first week, even months, it is convenient that the mother sleep with the baby and that you practice a lot of skin to skin contact and carry the baby in a kangaroo when going out, or simply carrying the baby. For your baby, smelling, touching, perceiving, seeing, hearting and tasting the presence of mom or dad constantly is as important as that he eats everyday.
While the baby is with you it will not really be important for you to worry about decorating his or her room so much since little by little you will discover that you and your partner are the essential part of your baby’s world.
However, if the idea of decorating your baby’s room does illusion you, don’t make the mistake of thinking that the more toys you buy for your baby equals to more love and stimulus.
Objects, such as toys and decorations do not need to be sophisticated, and if there are too many, the room may “smell” too much like plastic.
Because of this reason, try to only have at first a few toys adapted for your baby’s age and interest, for example, those that you can change places of frequently so that your baby can learn to search for them with his or her eyes. Keep in mind that preparing a simple room does not mean that you are depriving your baby, but rather that you are being responsible of the space that he or she will grow in.
It is convenient to have only a few things in the baby’s room during the first months, and really as far as objects are concerned, your baby doesn’t need many! But if you do need to do some baby shopping it is suggested you have the following:
- Something that will make some sound such as a baby rattle or a rubber doll that when squeezed, makes noise.
- A luminous visual source, such as those self-adhesive wall decorations that can be seen at night and that is placed on the wall next to the baby’s crib. Or a lamp that emits lights with different shapes.
- A colorful mobile placed at 25 cm in distance, for example, placed next to the crib, but that can be easily moved so that this is not the only element that attracts the baby’s attention.
The colors you choose for the walls of your baby’s room should be tranquilizing. Whites, soft purples, pastel green, yellow and blue are the most suggested.
