Baby Food at Eight Months
At eight months of age a new food is added into the baby’s diet, generally at the end of the afternoon, replacing the milk you used to feed the baby at that time. If the baby started eating in the afternoon schedule, now you will need to do this in the opposite schedule, in other words in the morning.
If the baby eats, it will not be necessary for you to breastfeed or bottle-feed the baby after lunch or dinner.
Feeding Schedule (8th Month)
- At 3:00 pm: Dessert with milk, preferably formula.
- At 6:30 pm Food (soup base).
New Foods (8th Month)
- Meats – turkey, lamb, liver
- Broccoli, beats, Italian squash
- Precooked cereals for babies (multi cereals with honey).
Foods to Avoid (8th Month)
- Virgin honey that has not been pasteurized
- Foods that are too hard and that do not dissolve quickly in the mouth such as peanuts, dry fruits, apple pieces, etc.
Some Baby Advice (8th Month) You can richen a baby’s soup base with liver, turkey meat or lamb and add in new ingredients such as vegetables, pastas, roots and beans. Add in a few leaves of some aromatic herb such as basil, oregano, and marjoram and take it out before serving. Keep half a cup of the soup from lunch to give it to the baby in the evening. Make sure the texture of the food is more solid and it will not be necessary for you to blend it anymore, it will be enough for you to chop the food really well so that the baby starts chewing.
