Baby’s Second Month, Motor Skills, Visual & Hearing Development

Baby’s Second Month
At this stage babies enjoy the attention of their parents and other adults. They also start to entertain themselves alone with their hands or by looking around. They like to listen to music, getting massages and will smile back at people. Although the quiet periods of the baby between sleeping, eating and crying are short, babies at this age are generally ready to “play”. Whether you are cooing the baby or playing, the activities that stimulate the baby’s senses can capture and prolong his or her attention. Observe your baby’s reaction to a music box with blinking lights. Watch how the baby follows the bright colored toy as you move it with his head and looks carefully at the rattle when you rattle it. the concentration of the baby could be very brief, but in those few moments, the sensorial stimulus literally “illuminates” certain areas of the baby’s brain.
