Bath Time for a Premature Baby
The ideal thing is to ask the nurses in the hospital about the time they normally bathed your baby so that you can continue on with the same schedule. If you already have a baby bathtub then use it, but if you need to buy your baby one, there are some special ones that you can place the baby into a semi sitting position while you bathe him or her. These bathtubs are very easy to get, and are perfect for premature babies. Except for the structure which is made out of rigid plastic, the rest of the baby bathtub is similar to a beam made out of cloth, and its purpose is to hold the baby well while the baby is cleaned inside the bathtub. If you choose the traditional bathtubs which can also be used as a diaper changing space, try to get the baby to touch his or her feet with the plastic floor while the baby is in the water, to ward off the feeling of insecurity the baby could feel when submerging him or her in water.
It is important to remember that bath times need to be done quickly. Make sure to test the water is not too hot or too cold by dipping your elbow in it. This is the easiest way to confirm if the water is adequate for the baby.
Do not forget to be very careful with the type of gel or shampoo you use on your baby’s hair. In all cases you can choose a natural one that does not come with a surprise and that your child does not have an allergic reaction to it.
To dry your baby, use some soft cotton towels and dry the baby by pat drying. It is important the baby does not get cold, so try again another day.
Amongst the other things you will need, you should make a list, which includes: humectation cream, gauze and almond yes.
Take advantage of the posterior moments in order to reinforce their corporal imagine and play with him.
