Bottle Feeding a Newborn baby

Bottle Feeding a Newborn baby

If you have stopped breastfeeding and have decided to take on bottle feeding as a option, or if you are giving your breasts a breather, there are certain things that are good to mention and things that need to be known about bottle feeding.

Interfering With the breast milk Production
If you have decided to bottle feed your baby, you will need to stop the milk production of your body. The production of milk is caused by heat and stimulus in the breasts. In order to stop it there are some things that can be done about it:

  • When bathing allow cold water to run down your breasts.
  • Place some cabbage inside your bra. Cabbage chemically works to reduce the amount of milk that is produced.
  • Place some ice packs in your bra.
  • Place ice packs over your breasts when they are congested.
  • Use a tight bra.

If you are planning on breastfeeding the baby for a short period of time such as six to twelve weeks, you may want to consider giving your baby a bottle of formula while the baby is also breastfeeding so the baby gets used to change easier.

Congested breasts can cause problems with pain. If you do feel a good amount of pain, you can talk to your doctor about pain medication. The good thing is that congestion in the breasts usually does not last for more than thirty six to forty eight hours.
