Continue With Stimulation at a Young Age

From birth and during the first infancy, our children need to be taken care of physically, psychically, and emotionally. Good positive messages in each one of these aspects will help them to develop security and trust in themselves.

In this stage however, it is very important that you help your kid, through certain games and exercises to discover his or her body, the limit of space he or she moves it and help him to develop his senses a little more. Little by little the child will become conscious that he or she needs of certain things to survive: food, affection, stimulation, contact, heat and protection, and a child will not doubt in finding his own means of discovering things and you might end up with a little scientist. You never know. Your child will explore the world, learn to stay away from danger and go towards what is safe, he or she will experiment, observe, try, and will always have some form of action plan. This stage, begins at around the age of 1 year and a half until a child is around six or seven years old approximately, although this largely depends on how the child has been stimulated during the first months of his or her life. So get to work! In order for your child to assimilate each one of the games and exercises we are going to give, it is important to:

  • Repeat them at least two times a day and make the experience pleasurable for both of you.
  • Find ways your child will pay attention to you. For this it is fundamental that child is relaxed and that it is not mealtime, sleep time, that his diaper is clean etc, since otherwise the child’s interest will be different.
  • Allow him to direct his attention to one person alone; don’t over stimulate him by trying to get him to pay attention to several people at the same time!
  • Make sure the sounds in the environment are soft and without stimulus that distort the experience. For example, too much or too little light.

In fact, in order to practice some of these suggestions you don’t need anything special, just to integrate them in the daily activities that you share and do with your child – although you will have to adapt to his needs and possibilities – it is indispensable that you also habituate yourself to them. Remember that early stimulation constitutes a way of helping the child achieve interest and a better integral development.
