Get To Know Your Baby
When a baby abandons the security of the mother’s uterus, he is suddenly exposed to a number of sensations that he does not understand. The only way to show his or her bewilderment is by crying and with the movement of their body. Learn to know what your baby is asking of you, by analyzing the strength, frequency and time the crying lasts. Babies cry when they are hungry, when they need a diaper change, when they are tired, when they are over stimulated, when they have a tummy ache or ear ache, when they are cold or hot, and when they want some affection.
The best way to know how your baby is is by observing him or her before acting in a fast way. Watch very carefully to the baby’s reactions to external stimulation and his or her routines (feeding, stimulation, nap or sleep times, BM times etc).
As the days go by you will be surprised to discover that each movement and each cry have a different cause. In order to attend to the baby correctly and get him or her to calm down, you will need to find crying patterns, sleep ones, and feeding and behavior ones. To explain it graphically we will establish four prototypes of the baby, and depending on the responses to the questions you will find in the following you will be able to find which fits better with yours. Certainly this division is random because your baby will have behaviors that fit more in one prototype. It is only a guide that will help you to treat the baby according to the baby’s temperament. Each baby is unique, different from their brothers and sisters, cousins and neighbor’s kids.
