Giving Birth to Twins
In most cases, women that are pregnant with triplets, give birth by cesarean. There have been some studies though that indicated that in special and specific circumstances and under very strict criteria, vaginal delivery is possible. However it is not very common.
In most cases pregnancies with twins go about without any problems but the work of labor and the delivery itself can be something pretty complex. Due to this reason, we suggest that women that are pregnant with twins give birth in a hospital because there are experts around and all the necessary things at hand should a complication arise.
There are three different positions twins can be in when they reach full term which are:
- The first fetus can be in a sitting position or in a transversal position and the second fetus can be sitting, upside down or transversal, this happens around twenty percent of the times.
- Both fetuses can be with their heads downwards, which is the case of forty five percent of pregnancies with twins. In this case, vaginal delivery has a sixty to seventy percent chance of going about well.
- The fist fetus can be head downwards, but the second one can be the other way around, which is what happens in around thirty five percent of the cases, in which case a cesarean will most likely be needed, that is, unless the doctor is able to manage getting the second baby turn upside down.
