How to Conserve Food for Children

The Refrigerator
These days’ refrigerators are indispensable items in every household and the refrigerator and freezer are two appliances that help to save time, since they spare us from having to buy food every day. Besides this, we can prepare more food and keep it for another moment.

When preparing your baby’s first soup, the refrigerator is an item that can be used to conserve the leftover food, as it can be kept in the refrigerator or the freezer.

Soup can be kept in the refrigerator for up to two days depending on how full the refrigerator is and the frequency in which it is opened. It is convenient to keep it in covered glass recipients since glass can be sterilized and does not have pores. As you go using the soup for the child, go changing the recipient to a smaller one every time, the idea of this is that there is as little air as possible accumulates because this is something that will make the food go off quicker.

Other things that will make food go off are onions and tomatoes since they become bitter easily. And these things should be kept in mind for all the foods that are made for a child.

If you buy meat or fish that is going to be eaten the same day, it is not necessary to freeze it. To conserve meat it is convenient to wrap it in aluminum foil or plastic wrap by the serving.

It is necessary to conserve the fish without cleaning, getting rid of the gut alone, if it has it, because water can alternate it quickly. It can be conserved in aluminum foil or in a covered recipient with the smallest accumulation of possible air.

It is important to remember that the coldness of a refrigerator and freezer is humid, and the humidity has a tendency to go downwards. This is why it is important to keep the meat and fish in the back of the refrigerator or freezer since it is colder in these areas. The best and optimal temperature is that of 3 to 8 degrees C. depending on the climate conditions you live in, as well as if the refrigerator is frequently opened or if it is very full.

Fruit and vegetables should be kept in the drawers that are designated for them or in the top part of the refrigerator since this is generally the area that has the least amount of coldness. If you are planning on keeping your fruit and vegetables on the lower drawers it is convenient to keep the fruit in plastic bags especially in the cases of fruit that is still not completely ripe as this will help it to ripen quicker. Once the fruit is ripe it is best to take it out of the bags because otherwise it will accumulate humidity and will damage the fruit. In the case of vegetables it is also important to do the same and leave the bag open.
