How to Feed a Baby

It is necessary to have criteria when it comes to feeding a baby and this is a subject that is highly focused on these days. However, often times feeding mistakes are done that can damage the proper growth of a child.

A lot of pediatricians have different points of view about the age in which solid foods should be given to a child. The important thing is to follow the feeding and health recommendations. We should never listen to people that think they know more than the specialists.

As was previously mentioned, there are diverse factors that make a child acquire concrete habits. For example, children that go to Daycare usually eat a greater variety of foods at a younger age. It has been proven that a high percentage of two year olds that go to school usually eat salads without any problems, which is different from those that eat at home. The same happens when it comes to foods like fish and cooked vegetables.

Feeding Mistakes
Some eating problems are directly related to the country a person grows up in such as giving a child an excess amount of animal protein or fat, instead of feeding more vegetables. This is contrary though to the dietary base of Mediterranean foods. We know that it is very important to control the amount of animal saturated fats however often times an excess amount of meat is fed to a child that also has saturated fat in its composition. Some types of meat have more than others, but even though all the visible fat is taken out of a steak for example, there is always some left in it.

In order to feed a child correctly, proteins are necessary, and this can be found in meat, fish, eggs, milk and milk products such as cheese etc. These foods also contain more or less amounts of saturated fat. Protein however, can also be found in vegetables, cereals, starch, and dried fruits, which generally do not have fat or are vegetables based which are not harmful to the health. On the other hand, vegetables and cereals are very rich in fibers, which are necessary for good bowel movements. Constipation used to be a problem that only adults used to have however now there are a lot of children that have this problem.
