Newborns Eyes and Ears

Newborns Eyes and Ears

When a baby is born the eyesight of the baby is very limited. Newborns can only see objects that are very close to them and can see better things that are at a distance of twenty centimeters. Newborns also react to light and seem to be particularly interested in objects that shine.

Newborn babies are born with darkish blue or brownish eyes, no matter what color eyes the parents have. At around four months of age, the baby’s eye color will change to their permanent color. As soon as the baby is born, the white part of the baby’s eyes has a bluish tint to them, however this tint disappears with time.

Often time the eyes of a newborn seem very swollen. Remember that the whole process of being born causes this swelling and that it is normal and disappears very quickly. There are times when swelling can also be caused by the antibiotic that is placed in the baby’s eyes after they are born. Babies are also able to hear when they are born & you will notice also that when there is a loud or sudden sound that the baby will react to it.
