Postpartum Care and Tips

If you have had a normal delivery, your recovery time will be quicker; it is very likely that after one day of having been in the clinic, that you will get sent home and that you will be able to do so walking (if you live close by that is). However, it is also possible that your delivery was long, or that you had a cesarean.

Care

  • Try not to talk at least during the first day after having been operated on, so that you do not fill up with gas.
  • Try to walk as soon as you can, but make sure that it is before 24 hours of having been operated on.
  • Remember that if you breast feed you will need to maintain a additional three to five kilograms of weight on you to guarantee that your baby is getting the adequate nutrition.
  • Drink a lot of water, between three and four liters a day.
  • If you had an epsiotomy done on you to place an ice pack wrapped in a towel on the affected area as the cold will help to reduce the swelling and reduce the pain. It is also recommended to take cold baths with a chamomile infusion. Remember to use previously boiled water in order to avoid infections.

Tips
No matter what type of delivery you had, it is good to wear a corset when getting out of the clinic.

The corset will not only prevent you from getting a hernia en case you do an abrupt movement, but it will help you to improve your figure while your womb goes back to normal.
