Premature Baby Reactions to Things

Not Now Mom, Ok, Now You Can
Generally, as premature babies go growing, their conduct can turn into something a little more difficult to define and at this stage it is possible that your baby will not only get tense when you try to pick him up, but that instead of curling up in your arms, he or she moves around as if uncomfortable. These unpredictable reactions during the skin-to-skin contact can inhibit a great part of your expressions of affections towards your baby, because of the sensation of rejection you are getting. In fact, these types of manifestations on the part of your baby do not mean that the baby does not want to be with you. Just like what happens to adults, where in certain occasions we feel better when we are away from all the impressions from the environment that surrounds us, they also sometimes prefer quietness and isolation.

For example, when your baby sleeps and maintains abdominal respiration, the baby is using his or her only defense mechanism to be able to regenerate himself in all the levels; even his own nervous system is maturing, so the best thing is to not bother him in these situations.

If you just so happen to have a certain amount of time to be with your baby and it just so happens to be when the baby is asleep, we suggest you talk to one of the nurses about what can be done. Keep in mind that, if after waking him, he manifests an attitude of rejection; it is probable that you will feel grief stricken and guilty because without a matter of a doubt, a tense situation will be generated.

There are women that when going to see their baby in the hospital to carry him or her for a few hours on their chest, are not willing to grab their baby to take the baby out of the incubator, but rather always ask for help from one of the nurses. They said that each time they tried to do this their baby would frown and some mothers automatically took it as if their baby simply did not like being moved by them.

There are women that feel capable of changing their baby and feeding them when they were very teensy, it is still very difficult for some to take off the electrodes and take them out of the incubator to then carry them.
