Are episiotomies really necessary?

Answer:
There are a lot of different factors involved in the answer to that question, including the doctor’s own view. This has become a topic of debate between a lot doctors. And obviously it is something that concerns pregnant mothers as well. There are a lot of doctors that believe that repairing a controlled cut is easier then repairing an accidental tear of the skin and the muscles that can sometimes happen if episiotomies are not performed. However, even though a doctor is able to see the layers of tissue better with an epsiotomy, there is not real agreement about the advantages of this procedure; besides that, it is difficult to know if the mother will need an epsiotomy before the labor is well into its course.
