Question: My husband and I were on vacations and I drank a good amount during the trip. I didn’t know I was pregnant until a couple weeks later. Is this going to hurt my baby?
Answer: There is not any evidence of an episode that an excess amount of alcohol has adverse effects in the pregnancy. However, now that you do know that you are pregnant, avoid drinking alcohol.
Question: Are hard liquors and drinks worse than drinking beer or wine?
Answer: A can of beer, a cup of wine or a cocktail with an ounce of strong liquor have approximately the same amount of alcohol in them, so not necessarily. There is not one drink that is safer than the other.
Question: My doctor suggested I drink a glass of wine the night before my amniocentesis. Can this cause a problem?
Answer: Alcohol just so happens to relax the uterus. After the amniocentesis, a lot of women get cramps in their uterus. The alcohol that is in one glass of wine can help to alleviate the discomfort without harming your baby.
