Some of the Things That Concern Mothers With Multiple Pregnancies
If you are indeed pregnant with twins or triples or more, the doctor will establish a very careful system of supervision since the risk of complications are higher in multiple pregnancies. The following are some of the things the doctor will make sure to check for. There are some things in the list that might be a little heavy but it should not scare you. It is always better to be aware of the potential problems that could arise and this way if they do arise, you and the doctor will be able to identify them right away and the way they are handled will be more adequate rather than letting things get out of hand.
Preterm Labor in Multiple Pregnancies One of the biggest risks of multiple pregnancies is preterm labor. The average pregnancy of one baby is around forty weeks, but it the case of women pregnant with twins it is only thirty-six weeks, and in the case of women pregnant with three babies it is thirty three to thirty four weeks. In the case of quadruplets it is thirty-one weeks. A pregnancy is considered full term if it is thirty-seven weeks or more. A preterm delivery is technically around twenty-four and thirty seven weeks, but most babies are born at around thirty five to thirty six weeks and are usually as healthy as babies that are born at thirty seven weeks.
Many women start preterm labor without it culminating prematurely. Around an eighty percent of women that are pregnant with triplets and a forty percent of the mothers of twins start preterm labor but not all of them give birth before time.
