Stewed Food for Children

Stewed Food for Children

Stews made for children must be made in a very simple way. The base should be limited to a very small amount of oil, well-chopped onion, grated tomato, garlic and basil or some aromatic herb. With this base it is possible to cook vegetables as well as meats, fish or eggs. Stews have a soft texture and their flavor changes considerably. Some children have a hard time getting used to this type of cooking because of the color and flavor.

Skillet Cooked Food
Food that is prepared in this way acquires a flavor that varies depending if it is cooked with a gas stove, an iron skillet, in an electric skillet, or with firewood etc. the most common way of cooking is by using a skillet, but it is also the least recommended for children that are starting to eat meat that is not boiled since the texture is always kind of hard. It is normal that children have a hard time chewing. Sometimes the same thing even happens with fish, however, this type of cooking does enhance the flavor of the food.

Papillote
This style of cooking is almost the same and as steam cooking. in the past foods that were cooked with this method were wrapped in special paper, and covered in butter or oil. Now the food is wrapped in aluminum foil and a hole is left in the foil to allow the vapor to accumulate. This style of cooking is best done in the oven, but an iron skillet can also be used.

When cooked this way the food will have the aspect of boiled food, but the flavor will be much tastier. This type of cooking method is adequate for all types of meats, fish, potatoes and some vegetables. Children usually tend to enjoy this type of food because the texture is soft but tasty.

Oven Cooked Food
Oven cooked food is more global since it is done in an enclosed space that allows the food to cook evenly.

When referring to oven-cooked food, it means that the resistance or heat source is in the lower part and in this case is also cooked by a hot air fan. However in some ovens this is the other way around and the resistance is on the top. In this last type of oven, foods will become golden easier. There are different types of foods that can be made in the oven such as stews, roast, papilllote, etc. as far as food for children is concerned, and the food will always be more juicy and softer.
