The first step to teaching your child mathematics
The first step to teaching your little child mathematics is in teaching your child to be capable of recognizing real numbers, which are the real value of numbers. Remember that numbers are nothing more than symbols that represent the real value of the numbers. It will start by teaching your baby (at the youngest age as possible) the math dots from number one to ten. He will start with the cards of one to five. Begin at an hour of the day when the child is the most receptive, rested up and is in a good mood. Go to a place in the house where
there is the least possible amount of distractions both in the auditive and visual ways such as: do not have the television on or music playing on the radio and so forth. Use a corner in a room where there is not a great amount of furniture, or paintings or other objects that could distract the sight of the child. This is when the fun begins now. Limit yourself to teaching the card that has number on “one” on it close the child but not too close to where he is able to reach out and grab it from you, while at the same time clearly telling him with a lot of enthusiasm, “This is number one”. Then show him the next card with the number “two” and once again with a lot of enthusiasm, tell him “This is number two”. Show the child cards three and four and five with the same amount of enthusiasm as you showed him the last ones. Use a corner in a room in the house that does not have a lot of furniture, or paintings, or other objects that could distract the child from his study time. When you show a set of cards it is better to take the card from under the stack instead of grabbing the card that is on the front because this way you will be able to take a look at one of the angles of the back of the card where you have written the corresponding number. This supposes that while you tell your child number one, you can will also be able to direct your full attention to his face. It is very important to direct all your attention to him and all of your enthusiasm instead of looking at the card while he is looking at you. |
