Understanding What the Doctor Tells You in Your Check Ups
In the first check up, the doctor will talk to you about several aspects of you physical health and your life style that could have an effect on the baby’s growth and your pregnancy.
Your Lifestyle Your doctor will ask you about your work and what your job consists of to know if you have an active or slow pace job. The doctor will want to know things such as if your job requires you to remain standing for long periods of time or sitting for long periods of time. He or she will also ask y
ou about your lifestyle in general such as if you drink alcohol in excess, if you smoke, if you go on diets regularly and if you get daily exercise etc.
The Last Menstrual Period The doctor will ask you about the beginning date of your last period to be able to determine based on that information the probable delivery date. If you are not sure when your last period started, try to remember the conception date and if you are not sure of either of those, the doctor will probably order a sonogram to establish how far along you are in your pregnancy.
Obstetrical and Gynecological History If you did not get a check before your conception date the doctor will ask you for information about your gynecological and obstetrical history, including previous pregnancies and fibromas, vaginal infections and other gynecological problems. You history will help to determine how to better manage the pregnancy. For example if you have diabetes the doctor will know to be prepared to treat this type of condition.
