When a Child Starts
Eating Mashed Foods

When a child first starts eating baby food or purees, a very abrupt change in the texture occurs. What was once liquid is now thick; not only this but the flavor, color and odor changes as well.

Once a child starts eating baby food or puree, you can then introduce him or her to a variety of different foods. The child will also want to start touching the food and becomes more autonomous. This is why a child starts moving and becomes distracted with the most unlikely things, because this is when they start to discover a whole array of new things. In these cases there are people that get nervous when this happens and they should avoid doing this, since it goes against the child.

It is impossible to avoid a child from touching his or her food, or

from getting dirty and playing and throwing the food. This is a transitory period. The important thing is to control the small autonomy the child is starting to acquire. You can teach a child to hold the bottle correctly, however the child himself should be the one that learns how to control it.

The sense of taste is one of the senses that develop before the rest. A fetus is able to perceive tastes through the umbilical cord and they also have a very keen sense of hearing. These senses are the base so that a baby eats well. It is precise that the child does not hear noises he or she does not like while eating and that they are fed what they like to eat. This is why during breast feeding times a woman should avoid eating certain types of food, so that they are not distasteful to the child. Through the sense of taste, a child discovers pleasure or just the opposite.

The Sensibility of Taste
We need to pay attention to the likes and preferences of our children. Without imposing it on them, at first it is important to introduce them to the different types of food they will need to eat. And if there is one they really do not like, don’t insist on having them eat it, but rather substitute it for another that has similar nutritional characteristics. It is also important to educate the child in a way so he or she can develop pleasant sensations to the foods. The sense of taste is taught in parallel to sensibility in the generalized sense.
